I am originally from the University of Maastricht in the Netherlands, where I did my undergraduate study in Biological Health Sciences. My current research involves examination of the acute and long term effects of the drug GHB ("G", "Fantasy", "Liquid Ecstasy") on the brain, particularly when taken in combination with MDMA and methamphetamine.

I am also involved in teaching behavioural neuroscience and learning courses.

PhD student

Garth Hargreaves

BSc (Hons, Sydney)

I completed my honours year in 2003, looking at the expression of c-fos in ecstasy treated rats exposed to high ambient temperatures. I have also been involved in research examining the effects of cat odour on rat behaviour and neural activation.

I have worked in conjunction with Dr Perminder Sachdev at UNSW and POW hospital, looking at anxiety models and immunohistochemistry in rats treated with transcranial magnetic stimulation.

I am currently working on the beer model of alcohol craving, examining the effects of various "anti-craving" drugs.

I completed my honours year in 2004 under the supervision of Dr Jonathon Arnold from the discipline of pharmacology. I examined the anti-cancer properties of cannabinoids in human breast cancer cell lines.

My current research is looking at whether the cannabinoid THC can be released from fat stores back into the blood to cause "re-intoxication", using animal models.
