Perceptual binding of letters into a word is low temporal resolution

For each of the conditions below, a slow speed limit, less than 5 Hz, was found. This is in contrast to other stimuli for which the features can be bound at much faster rates (Holcombe & Cavanagh, 2001; Clifford, Holcombe, & Pearson 2004)

Note: you must fixate (keep your eyes very still) while viewing the movies, as otherwise successive strings will not land on the same patch of retina, allowing you to cheat! Fixating here is more difficult than with other stimuli, perhaps because of the habit of saccading while reading.
