Majoring in Psychology in the Faculty of Arts
for Students Enrolling in 2008 (BA, BLiberal Studies, and BA (Psych))
Psychology, a discipline within the Faculty of Science, is often
taken as part of a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Liberal Studies.
It can be taken as a major within either of these programs. Students
should note that in the Bachelor of Arts degree,
and in the BA (Psych) degrees,
Psychology may
only be taken as a second major, and students
must also take a major from one of the subject areas listed under
Part A of the Table of Units of Study (refer
to the Faculty of Arts Handbook). Different rules apply to the Bachelor
of Liberal Studies. Under these rules, students may take a major
in Psychology as their major in Science and will also take their
major in Arts from one of the subject areas listed under Part A
in the Faculty of Arts Handbook.
As outlined in the Faculty of Science Handbook, a Major in Psychology
requires 48 credit points of Intermediate (2000 level) and Senior
(3000 level) Psychology units of study (including PSYC2011, PSYC2012,
PSYC2013, PSYC2014, and at least one of PSYC3011, PSYC3012, PSYC3013
or PSYC3014). Students intending to proceed to a fourth year of
study in Psychology must take PSYC3010. Students may also count HPSC3023
towards a Psychology Major. This Unit of Study is a prerequisite
for those students wishing to write a theoretical thesis in their
Psychology Honours year.
Thus, a Major in Psychology is possible within both the BA and
Bachelor of Liberal Studies programs. The Psychology units of study
are outlined in Part B of the Table of Units of Study in the Faculty
of Arts Handbook and further details of all Psychology units can
be found in the Faculty of Science Handbook.
Below is an example of a possible combination majoring in History
and Psychology where additional units of Psychology are completed
