DBT Skills Training Group - Parramatta

Starting Thursday the 21st September, 2017, the Gambling Treatment and Research Clinic is offering a free DBT skills group in Parramatta for people struggling with substance abuse, gambling problems or other emotion regulation problems. The course last 10 weeks and will be an introduction to basic DBT skills.
DBT skills group is aimed at helping individuals manage emotions and feelings that can overwhelm or contribute to their problems and make progress in therapy difficult.

The basic course is suitable for those new to DBT and will address 3 components:
1. Mindfulness skills – designed to enhance the ability of participants to stay focused on the present moment and to more easily handle their struggle with unwanted thoughts and emotions.
2. Emotion Regulation Skills – to enable participants to deal with intense negative emotions and develop effective emotional coping strategies
3. Distress Tolerance Skills – skills to deal with extreme emotional pain and life crises.

DBT has strong evidence supporting its use in a range of problems associated with emotion regulation. This group
is kindly funded by the Responsible Gambling Fund and is free for participants. All potential participants must contact the clinic to register to ensure their place in a group.
