This was a post-doctoral Research Associateship that involved research and development of a new taxonomic model of mental processing speed. The approach combined both experimental and individual differences methodologies. In Stage 1, five mental speed constructs were proposed and were subsequently investigated: Decision Time, Movement Time, Inspection Time, Speed of Test-Taking and Personal Tempo. In Stage 2, the model was developed to incorporate sensory (i.e., perceptual) dimensions into the taxonomy: visual vs. auditory vs. tactile-kinesthetic processes. Throughout the period of this tenure I also investigated relatively 'new' (or poorly understood) domains of learning and individual differences (e.g., emotional intelligence; practical intelligence; social intelligence; self-confidence; tactile, auditory, gustatory and olfactory abilities; linkages among measures of circadian rhythms, personality, intelligence and mood). My mentor throughout this period of tenure was Dr. Patrick C. Kyllonen.
