Psychological Test Batteries

Dr Stankov, Dr Roberts, and virtually all of their students, have constructed a number of psychological tests to measure disparate cognitive ability, personality, and other individual differences constructs. In addition, owing to a variety of active research collaborations, members of the Individual Differences and Assessment Laboratory have access to a number of tests developed by prominent international researchers. Below is an inventory (and brief description) of many of these measures.

Description and/or Comments

Tests Developed ‘In-house’

Australian Time Organisation and Management Scales (ATOMS)

A 62 item self-report questionnaire measuring six facets of Time Management: Purposivism/Goal Directedness, Time Facilitation, Mechanics of Time Management, Temporal Perspective/Change Management, Spontaneity, and Effective Organisation (paper-and-pencil only).

Belief in Paranormal Phenomena Inventory (BPPI)

A 60 item self-report scale measuring belief in the paranormal (paper-and-pencil format only).

Cognitive Assessment of Broad Speediness (CABS)

A battery of 16 computerized measures of processing speed, attention switching, memory, and movement speed (PC format only).

Computerized Trail-Making Battery (CTM-BAT)

A computerized version of nearly 20 variants of this popular neuropsychological test (PC platform only).

Gf/Gc Quickie Test Battery

A battery of 24 measures of fluid and crystallized intelligence that may be mixed in any combination of paper-and-pencil and computerized forms (both PC and Mac platforms).

Lark-Owl Chronotype Indicator (LOCI)

A measure of circadian type containing three scales: Morningness, Eveningness, and Sleep Propensity. It is available in two parallel forms, in both computerized and paper-and-pencil formats.

Performance Accuracy Speed Test Battery (PAST-BAT)

A battery of 25 paper-and-pencil elementary cognitive tasks (ECTs), each of which have been shown to have excellent psychometric properties.

Short Tests of Olfactory Retrieval Measures (STORM)

A ‘stand-alone’ battery of four tests of individual differences in olfactory memory.

Simon Incompatible/Compatible Speed Tests (SICST)

A battery of nine reaction time tasks in which stimulus response compatibility is successively manipulated (Mac platform only).

Stankov’s Tests of Cognitive Ability (STOCA)

A standardized, computerized battery of fluid intelligence, crystallized intelligence, mental speed, and confidence ratings measures. This battery, developed by Dr Stankov, is sold commercially through Louis Cadman and Associates (PC and Mac platforms).

Sydney Haptic Assessment Measures (SHAM)

A battery of 15 measures designed to assess tactile and kinesthetic perceptual processes. These are all ‘stand-alone’ tests.

Sydney Somnolence and Sleep Habits Scale (SSSH Scale)

An experimental inventory of 150 items designed to assess sleep quantity, quality, and propensity (paper-and-pencil format only).

Collaborations and/or Authorized Use of Other Researchers Psychological Tests

Christal’s Trait Self-Description Inventory (TSD-I)

A self-report measure of the Big Five personality factors: Conscientiousness, Agreeableness, Neuroticism, Openness, and Extraversion. Yields both trait and facets scores (both PC and paper-and-pencil platforms).

Cognitive Assessment Measures (Version IV) (CAM-IV)

Computerized cognitive tests developed by Kyllonen and collaborators under the USAF’s LAMP project (PC platform only).

Multifactor Emotional Intelligence Scales (MEIS)

Dr Roberts has procured this test of emotional intelligence and is currently using it in a study on approximately 700 Air Force Enlistees.

Sid Irvine’s Deep Six Scales (SIDS)

A paper-and-pencil measure of an alternative model of personality to the Big Five Factor Model – the "Deep Six".

Social Competence Inventory (SCI)

An experimental measure of social competence, developed by Dr Rob Schneider, which has yet to be fully validated. Dr Roberts is working on a project that redresses this shortcoming.

Super’s Stereoacuity Timed Tester

An experimental measure of broad visualization that we are planning to use in our lab in 2000.

Revised Woodcock-Johnson Psychoeducational Battery

Dr Stankov and Dr Roberts are likely to be involved in a project that obtains standardized Australian norms on this excellent measure of the broad cognitive ability factors of Gf/Gc theory.

Yugoslavia Amorality Scales

Dr Stankov has been validating this very interesting self-report measure of morality/amorality.
