Theoretical Article (essay) structure - rules and common mistakes

How should you structure your essay

  1. Title and abstract on their own on a new page
  2. The next page will repeat the title then start the essay
  3. Reference list starts a new page, with the heading "References"
  4. Appendices (if required): Sometimes you may have additional information (eg. raw data, the items on a psychological scale, etc.) that you may want your reader to have access to. If so, you'd put this in appendicies at the end - each appendix beginning a new page, headed Appendix A, Appendix B, etc. It is highly unlikely that you'd need to include an appendix in an essay in 1st, 2nd or 3rd year and you should not include one unless you feel it absolutely necessary.
