Doctor of Clinical Psychology Internships at The University of Sydney
A three-year double degree "Doctor of Clinical Psychology/Master of Science" is offered at the School of Psychology, University of Sydney. The two year Master of Clinical Psychology is no longer offered. The program involves six clinical internships. The first three internships take place in the University of Sydney Psychology Clinic, under the supervision of members of the academic staff: Dr Caroline Hunt, Dr Louise Sharpe, Dr Maree Abbott, Professor Stephen Touyz, Professor Alex Blaszczynski and Dr Kathleen McHugh. All students have had considerable clinical exposure, in both adult and child settings, before proceeding to external internships.
The final three internships take place in external hospital and community settings. The external internships are 6 months in length and are planned to be 2 days a week for 24 weeks. There are two external internship periods: January to June and July to December. The University of Sydney internships may be longer in duration than you are accustomed to, but we expect that having students on site for a longer period will afford the advantage that they will be able to become effective members of staff in your setting. Also as an advanatage, third year Interns should be equivalent in skills to a newly qualified Clinical Psychologists from the old MPsychol program. We do, however, recognize that this arrangement may not suit everyone. Please advise us if this is the case, what your requirements are, and we will endeavour to accommodate them. Up to thirty second and third year Interns require allocation to external internships each year.
We invite you to become a clinical supervisor for the final three internships, which take place in external settings over the last eighteen months of the Interns' study program.
