Fees and Financial Assistance

What fees am I required to pay?

For local students, the up-front fees to the DCP or DCN are payable per credit point, for the first two years of the degree. The research component of the combined degrees (either MSc or PhD) will be RTS-based therefore incur no cost. The level of fees may change on an annual basis, subject to University discretion.
For local students, HECS-based places may be available subject to University discretion. In the event that HECS places are available, applicants need to contact the Faculty of Science to apply. HECS Equity application forms are to be included with your application. All applicants are encouraged to submit an application for a HECS place, as the number of HECS places available may vary from year to year.

International students must contact the International Office for accurate information regarding fees. However, International students must pay an annual fee for each enrolled year.

Are there any other grants or financial assistance available to candidates?

Students are only eligible to apply for APA or UPA scholarships in third year, once they are enrolled full time in the research degree, MSc or PhD. This is because in the first year students only enrol in the coursework degree, DCP, and in the second year second semester students are only enrolled part time in the research degree, therefore they are first enrolled full time in the research degree in first semester of third year.

Subject to University discretion, each year there may be one HECS-equity place and one HECS-merit place available. Applicants will have to apply directly to the Faculty Office to be considered for the HECS-equity place. The HECS-merit place will be offered to the top-ranking applicant as rated by the Clinical Psychology Unit. The HECS-equity place is awarded by the Science Faculty upon need, determined by the applicant's individual circumstanes, eg. last tax return.

Applicants are eligible to apply for PELS (Postgraduate Education Loans Scheme) for the coursework component (DCP or DCN) of the combined degree (DCP/MSc or DCN/MSc). PELS enables local postgraduate coursework students to secure a loan form the Commonwealth Government for all or part of their tuition fees. Please contact the Faculty of Science.

Can I apply for an APA scholarship?

DCP and DCN are not eligible to apply for a scholarship at the initial stage of application. DCP and DCN are only apply to apply for a scholarship in their third year. Eligible students will be encouraged to apply for an APA scholarship prior to enrolling in the PhD component of the degree, following more than three semesters of enrolment in the DCP. APA scholarships cannot be deferred. APA scholarships are only available to students with first class honours.
