The Tanya Sackville Memorial Scholarship was established in 2008 through a donation from Tanya’s parents, Justice Ronald Sackville and Mrs Pamela Sackville, with matching funds from the School of Psychology and Faculty of Science, and additional donations from relatives and friends of the family. The purpose of this annual scholarship is to provide financial support to postgraduate clinical doctorate students studying clinical psychology, and is intended for those students who demonstrate both academic excellence and financial hardship or need. The scholarship shall be awarded under the following conditions:

  • The Tanya Sackville Memorial Scholarship in Clinical Psychology is to the value of the annual scholarship is $7,000, payable as a one-off payment, in two six-monthly allocations.
  • One scholarship will be awarded annually. If there are no suitable candidates in any one year, two annual scholarships may be offered the following year.
  • The scholarship shall be awarded by the School of Psychology, on the recommendation of the Dean. Successful applicants will be selected by the Head of School in consultation with the Clinical Associate Head and other senior academics of the Clinical Psychology Unit involved in the Doctorate in Clinical Psychology/Master of Science degree.
  • The tenure of the scholarship is one year. Students are eligible to reapply.
  • The scholarship shall be open to full-time students in the School of Psychology’s Doctor of Clinical Psychology/Master of Science degree
  • Applicants must be Australian citizens or have permanent resident status.
  • Applicants shall be required to submit an application form with full academic records attached.
  • Applicants shall be receiving Centrelink support in the previous year and/or provide evidence of financial hardship.
  • The scholarship may not be awarded to an applicant who is in receipt of another award of equal or higher value.

APS Clinical Psychology Scholarships

The Australian Psychological Society (APS) is administering scholarships funded by the Department of Health and Ageing for part-time and full-time students applying to commence or part-way through an APAC-accredited Masters or Professional Doctorate in Clinical Psychology in 2010. Scholarships are valued at $15,000 per annum for full-time students and $7,500 per annum for part-time students. To be eligible, applicants must be Australian citizens or permanent residents and meet one of the following:

  • be from rural, regional or remote localities,
  • be an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander,
  • have a culturally and linguistically diverse background,
  • have a demonstrated commitment to working in these locations or with one or more of these populations.

Scholarships for Local students

At the time of application, students are only able to apply for postgraduate coursework scholarships. Students are not eligible to apply for postgraduate research scholarships until enrolled full time in the research degree in third year.

RTS (Research Training Scheme)

The RTS Scheme, administered by the Department of Education, Training and Youth Affairs (DETYA) provides HECS Exemptions for Commonwealth-funded higher degree research (HDR) students for the duration of an accredited HDR course, up to a maximum of four (4) years' full-time equivalent study for a doctorate by research and two (2) years' full time equivalent study for a masters's by research. The RTS replaces the Research Higher Education Contribution Scheme (HECS) Exemptions Scheme.

APA (Australian Postgraduate Award) Scholarships

The APA Scheme is administered by the Department of Education, Training and Youth Affairs (DETYA) in conjunction with Australian universities, to assist candidates with exceptional research potential to undertake a higher degree. Please note you are not eligible to apply for an APA until third year of the DCP/MSc program when you are enrolled full time in the MSc.

UPA (University of Sydney Postgraduate Award) Scholarships

The University of Sydney Postgraduate Award is offered to applicants ranked on the Australian Postgraduate Award order of merit list.The University of Sydney Postgraduate Award has conditions and allowances similar to the Australian Postgraduate Award. However, the award is funded by the University of Sydney and is not transferable to other institutions. Please note you are not eligible to apply for an APA until third year of the DCP/MSc program when you are enrolled full time in the MSc.

University of Sydney Access Scholarships

The University of Sydney offers scholarships to students with academic ability who have been disadvantaged in some way. (financial, disability or rural/remote).
