Accreditation

  • The Doctor of Clinical Psychology/ Master of Science (DCP/MSc) and Doctor of Clinical Psychology & Doctor of Philosophy (DCP & PhD) provide a professional postgraduate qualification in clinical psychology.
  • The course is accredited by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC) as a 5th, 6th and 7th year of training, and is an approved qualification for Associate Membership of the Australian Psychological Society (APS) College of Clinical Psychologists.
  • The NSW Psychologists Registration Board also accredits the course for the purposes of registration.
  • The DCP/MSc degree is recognised, in principle, by the New South Wales Department of Health as qualifying the holder for progression to the grade of Clinical Psychologist.

Registration

Provisional Registration

  • Before commencing candidature in the DCP/MSc program, all students are required to have applied for provisional registration with the NSW Psychologists Registration Board.
  • Students must hold provisional registration with the NSW Psychologists Registration Board in order to commence clinical internships as of first year semester one of the DCP/MSc program.

Full Registration

  • Students will be eligible for full registration with the NSW Psychologists Registration Board, after two years of provisional registration, following the successful completion of all coursework, clinical internship and research requirements for the first two years of the DCP/MSc program.

APS Clinical College Membership

  • Upon award of the DCP/MSc degree, once all requirements for the DCP/MSc degrees have been met, after the end of third year, students will qualify for progression to the grade of Clinical Psychologist, as recognized by the New South Wales Department of Health, Corrective Services, and Community Services.
  • Students who upgrade to the DCP & PhD program in the third year, must complete requirements for both the DCP and PhD degrees, before being eligible to qualify for progression to the grade of Clinical Psychologist (after at least four and a half years of full time study).
  • Upon graduation, students are eligible for membership of the APS College of Clinical Psychologists.

Supervision

  • The basic eligibility criteria in order to be appointed as a Registration Board Authorised Supervisor, is three years of full registration.
  • In order to supervise students enrolled in an APAC accredited 5th and 6th year program such as the DCP/MSc, Supervisors should be eligible for membership of the APS Clinical College, be registered as a Psychologist and have at least 2 years of full time clinical experience following completion of their postgraduate psychology degree.
