How to Apply

2. COMPLETE APPLICATION FORMS
- Complete the application form using BLOCK LETTERS, and where required, write clear crosses in the appropriate boxes.
- Please ensure that the information on your application is complete, that all of the required documentation is included, and that the application is legible.
- Please complete the information on your application within the spaces provided. Do not submit attachments instead of completing the application form.
- If you require additional space, please ensure that you complete the most relevant information in the spaces provided and then you may attach further details.
- Please attach your application together with a paper clip or ‘magic clip’. Please do not staple your forms.
- Please attach all application forms, referee reports and supporting documentation together in one package for submission.
3. ATTACH TWO REFEREE REPORT FORMS
- Applicants must submit two referee reports
One referee report must be academic, the other may be a work experience referee or a second academic referee. If you do not have any relevant work experience or are unable to obtain a work experience referee, you are required to submit two academic referee reports. - Referee reports must be submitted in confidential envelopes, sealed and signed by the referee.
Applicants send the referee report forms to the referee. The referee is to complete the form. The referee is to place the completd form in an envelope and sign over the seal of the envelope to preserve confidentiality. The referee is to return the complete report to the applicant. The applicant must attach to the application form, the two completed referee report forms, still in the sealed confidential envelopes. The applicant must wait for the referees to return the referee reports directly to the applicant BEFORE submitting the application. DO NOT SUBMIT YOUR APPLICATION FORM TO THE FACULTY OF SCIENCE OR INTERNATIONAL OFFICE WITHOUT ATTACHING TWO REFEREE REPORTS. The Faculty of Science will return your application to you if it is incomplete ie. if you have not attached one or more referee reports. It is the applicant's responsibility to ensure the Referees complete the report forms prior to the closing date. Applicants who submit application forms without referee report forms attached run the risk of the application being incomplete, unable to be assessed and unable to proceed to the selection interview.
4. ATTACH SUPPORTING DOCUMENTATION
Provide original or certified copies
- In person If you submit your application in person to the Student Counter of the Faculty of Science or International Office, you are required to present the originals of the supporting documentation. The Faculty of Science staff can sight the originals and copy them for you so that you need not submit originals with your application.
- By post If you submit your application by post, you may enclose certified photocopies of your originals. However, you must present the originals at enrolment to be sighted by Faculty staff.
- If you have questions about which types of documents are acceptable in support of your application, or whether or not original documents can be returned to you after your application has been processed, you should contact the Faculty.
- All supporting documentation is to be submitted in one package, with your application forms, to the Faculty of Science or International Office.
Tertiary qualifications
- Complete official academic transcripts for your qualifications
An academic transcript lists individual subjects completed within the degree (differs from Testamur or Degree certificate).
If degree has was attained from University of Sydney, you are not required to submit an original transcript.
If degree was awarded from a non-Australian University, attach evidence of APS evaluated degree equivalency. - Grading system
Appears on the reverse of the academic transcript or in the University's Faculty Handbook. - Testamur - Graduated
A Testamur is the degree certification awarded at the graduation ceremony. - Proof of completion - Not yet Graduated
Students currently completing final semester should include academic transcripts up until the final semester and official documentation from the institution stating you will finish at the end of the semester and the name of degree to be awarded.
Students who have completed their studies but not yet graduated and not yet been awarded a testamur should include official documentation from the institution stating the name of the degree completed and the date of completion. - Language of issue
If the original language of issue for any of these documents is not English then the originals should be provided together with a certified translation.
Proof of residency
- Evidence of your Residency status, Australian citizenship, Australian permanent residency.
- Birth certificate or passport or certificate of citizenship.
English proficiency
- Evidence of English proficiency (IELTS), must be provided if your qualifications were obtained from a university where English is not the official language.
- Attach evidence of satisfying english language requirements IELTS test scores. An IELTS minimum overall score of 7, and a minimum score of 7 in each band is required for admission to the DCP/MSc.
- If your tertiary studies were conducted in English but not in one of the following countries; Australia, USA, England or Canada; you will need to provide official documentation that your studies were conducted in English.

Proof of change of name
- All applicants who have changed their name will need to provide proof of that change of name:
- Marriage certificate or other legal documentation
5. SUBMIT APPLICATION
Local Students submit application forms to the Faculty of Science, Postgraduate Assistant, Carslaw Building (F07), University of Sydney NSW 2006 by 1pm on Friday 31 October 2008
