Provisional Registration

All DCP students must obtain provisional registration (or if applicable full registration) with the NSW Psychologists Registration Board. The provisional registration is to cover you whilst you are enrolled in the three years of the DCP/MSc degree and completing clinical internships.

Once you have received your offer of a place on the DCP/MSc program you are advised to apply for provisional registration immediately.

All students must have provisional registration with the NSW Psychologist's Registration Board by the first week of Semester 1, Monday 3 March 2008. Registration Board meetings are held on the first Tuesday of every month except January. Applications and correspondence are due well in advance of the meeting, please contact the Registration Board for details. Student are advised to submit their application for the February meeting in order to be registered and have received your certificate of registration in time for the commencement of Clinical Internship 1. If you miss the February meeting deadline and submit for the March meeting deadline, it may still be possible to be registered for the start of Semester 1, however, it is unlikely that you will receive your certificate of registration for the start of semester.

YOU are required to organise for your University to send directly to the Registration Board in a sealed envelope, an original academic transcript of your undergraduate degree. We do not organise this.

The NSW Psychologists Registration Board requires that you submit a letter from the University confirming your enrolment in the higher degree. You do not need to do this. Prior to enrolment we will supply to the Registration Board, a list of potential enrolling students. Once you have enrolled mid to late February, we will provide the letter confirming your enrolment to the registration board.

Students who have qualifications from a non-Australian University are required to have their qualifications assessed by the Australian Psychological Society (APS) in order to be eligible for registration with the NSW Psychologists' Registration Board. Please note that the APS application processing time is 6-8 weeks and a fee is involved. Students who have qualifications from a non-Australian University are advised to have their qualifications assessed by the APS prior to applying for the DCP/MSc program.

The NSW Psychologists Registration Board requires that you submit evidence of professional indemnity insurance. The University of Sydney provides you with professional indemnity insurance whilst you are enrolled in and completing clinical internships in the DCP/MSc program. Please download a current copy of the University of Sydney's professional indemnity insurance policy for students on clinical internships or placement. For further information visit the University's website (note the policy document referenced there is not current, but for 2007).

  2. Form 2 - University of Sydney's professional indemnity insurance policy for students on clinical internships or placement

Please note that incomplete applications will not be placed before the Board. Please check your application to make sure that all necessary documentation has been included. If an application is incomplete it will be deferred until the next meeting when it is complete.

Following consideration of your application at a Board meeting you will receive written advice from the Registrar of the Board. If your application was approved you will receive a certificate of registration and a letter within 28 days of the date of the meeting. As soon as you have received it, please present a copy of your certificate of registration to the Administrative Officer (Belinda Ingram) as proof of registration in order to commence Clinical Internship 1. You will not be permitted to commence Clinical Internship 1 without this evidence.

If you are not registered by the first week of semester 1, you will not be able to commence Clinical Internship 1. Therefore if you miss one or more weeks of Clinical Internship 1 you will be required to make up the observational hours that you missed, at another time in Semester 1.
