How to Apply
Am I a local student?
Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents and New Zealand citizens are classified as local students for application.
Am I an international student?
You are an international fee-paying student if you are NOT an Australian citizen (including dual citizens), or a New Zealand citizen (including dual citizens), or a permanent resident of Australia.You are an international fee-paying student if you hold a permit for temporary entry to Australia. For example, if your status is: overseas student, permanent resident of New Zealand, diplomat, temporary resident who hold permits for work purposes, refugee or a dependent of any of the above. How do I apply for the Doctor of Clinical Psychology/Master of Science (DCP/MSc) program?
All information regarding the DCP/MSc program is available from the Clinical Psychology Unit website under Future Students. Download the application forms from the Clinical Psychology Unit website under Future Students/ Applying/ Application Forms. Submit an online application by the closing date.
What is the application closing date?
For local students, the last Friday in October of each year.
For international students the first Monday in October each year.
Can I use last years forms to apply for this year?
No. Please wait until the application forms for the current year are posted on the web. Application forms are reviewed July each year, and will be posted on the web as soon as available. Previous years forms are intended as a guide only, as they are subject to change each year.
What do I do if I am having trouble downloading the application forms?
The application forms are available as Adobe Acrobat PDF files. Click on the link application forms. Download each of the application forms to your desktop. Try opening the files within Adobe Acrobat. If you still have difficulty downloading the forms, contact the Direct Applications Team or International Office.
Are the application forms available in a word format?
No. Application forms are not available in a word format. The application forms are only available in a Adobe Acrobat PDF format.
What if I need more space to complete my responses on the application form?
Please complete the most relevant and/or summarised information on the application form as this is what will be considered foremost. You may then attach any additional information.
Do I need to upload my University's grading system?
Yes. Upload your University's grading system, usually on the reverse of your academic transcript. If your qualification is from Australia or New Zealand, DAT or IO may be able to upload the grading system on your behalf. However, for all non-Australian qualifications your University's grading system must be uploaded.
Can I attach information (eg. CV) to the application form instead of filling out the supplementary form?
No. You must complete your responses within the spaces provided on the supplementary form. Do not simply attach extra pages referring back to the application form. However, if you have completed your responses in the spaces provided on the application, and need further space, you may attach further information, however, please complete the most relevant information on the application form as this is what will be considered foremost.
What if I am currently completing honours and my results are still pending at the time of application?
Please record "PENDING" on the application form in the 'Results Complete or Pending' box under 'Tertiary qualifications in psychology'. Please be sure to record your WAM or GPA for your degree overall as is known to date, eg. up to Semester 1 of fourth year. Please record the name, phone number and email address of your honours coordinator so that we may verify your honours results once they are available. Provide consent to your fourth year coordinator to release informal honours results to the University of Sydney for the purposes of application. Once you have received written confirmation of your results please upload the results notice.
Do I need to submit a research proposal with my application?
No, at this stage of application it is not necessary to submit a research proposal with your application. The DCP/MSc is a double degree, initially all candidates enrol only in the Doctor of Clinical Psychology (coursework degree), it is not until second semester of second year that candidates enrol in the Master of science (research degree). Therefore there are no research requirements at the application stage.
Do I need to find a research supervisor before applying for the DCP/MSc?
No, at this stage of application, it is not necessary to be arrange research supervision. Students do not formally enrol in the research degree (Master of Science), until second semester of second year. Research topics, projects and supervisors are determined at a later date once enrolled in the program. Students are only required to submit a detailed research proposal by the end of their first year of the DCP/MSc.
Do I submit the referee reports with my application or does my referee send the reports directly to the University?
Applicants must nominate two referees. Contact your referee to ensure they are willing to complete a University of Sydney referee report form. Only a referee report form will be accepted, not a letter of reference. DAT or IO email a referee report directly to your referee. The referee is to complete the referee report form electronically. The referee emails the completed the referee report to:
1. Direct Applications Team, direct.applications@sydney.edu.au (DOMESTIC APPLICANT)
2. International Office, io.mail@sydney.edu.au (INTERNATIONAL APPLICANT)
Will my application be accepted after the application closing date?
No, your complete application must be received by close of business on the closing date. Applications received after the closing date will not be considered. Late applications can not be evaluated nor proceed to the selection interview.
What happens to incomplete applications?
If one or more of the application forms is missing, the application will be considered incomplete. Incomplete applications can not be evaluated nor proceed to the selection interview. You will be notified through your online application portal if any documents are missing.
What may I submit as proof of residency?
The only forms of evidence of proof of residency accepted are: passport, birth certificate or citizenship certificate. If your passport is Australian, that is accepted a proof of residency status.
Can I submit a work experience referee report from volunteer work experience?
If your volunteer work experience is of a clinical or clinical research nature, you may use this to obtain a work experience referee report. However, if your volunteer work does not have clinical or clinical research content, you will not be able to include it in your application. In such a case, you would be advised to find a second academic referee report.
When do I need to submit my application by?
For admission in March, for domestic students you must submit your application by the last Friday in October of the year prior. For international students, 1 October. For domestic and international students, all referee reports must be submitted by the referee directly to the university by 1 October.
What happens once I have submited my application?
Once processed by the Direct Applications Team (DAT) or International Office the application is forwarded to the Faculty of Science and Clinical Psychology Unit for evaluation. Successful applicants will be contacted by late November to be offered a selection intervew. Unsuccessful applicants will be through their direct applications portal before the University closedown on 18 December.
I can’t access my portal?

I am having difficulties uploading documents?
The System will only allow one file name uploaded per section (if you have a document that has two pages and has saved them separately you will need to merge them under one file name or upload the second page to a different section.)

How do I track my applications?
To track your application please log in to the portal via https://sydneystudent.sydney.edu.au/sitsvision/wrd/siw_lgn (do not use Internet Explorer version 6 to access the portal). Please enter your applicant ID (SID or IPU number) and your password.

I recently submitted an application, the fee type on my application shows “Fee-Paying place” but I wanted to apply for CSP. What do I need to do?
Nothing – the system automatically defaults all applicants to “Fee-Paying”, it will be the Faculty who decides if the place is Fee Paying or CSP.
Is it important for me to check my email?
Yes! All correspondence with the University will be by email. Please ensure that you include your correct email address in your application which you can use to receive mail.
Some email messages/attachments may not be accepted or may be flagged as spam by some email providers (e.g. Hotmail or Yahoo). Applicants are advised to check their span and junk mail folder regularly.
Do I apply separately for preferences?
We strongly recommend that you lodge separate applications for 2nd and 3rd preferences. As these courses will only be considered once the 1st preference has been rejected. To avoid missing any deadlines, please submit a separate application for these courses.
I have received a conditional offer, how do I upload the outstanding documents?
Please email the documents to DAT at direct.applications@sydney.edu.au and we will upload these documents for you.
I accepted my offer but did not receive an email confirming this.
Please note the system will not email students when the offer has been accepted. To confirm if this has successfully been accepted please email DAT at direct.applications@sydney.edu.au for confirmation.
