Louise Heiniger

BSc Psychology (Hons), PhD (Medical Psychology)

Research Co-ordinator

I completed Psychology Honours in 2007 and have worked in psycho-oncology at CeMPED since February 2008. For five years, I worked on a large prospective study (the kConFab Psychosocial study) of women at increased familial risk of breast cancer. This study investigated the role of psychosocial factors (e. g. stress, anxiety, depression) in the development of breast cancer, with a large sub-study investigating, both quantitatively and qualitatively, the impact of undergoing risk-reducing mastectomy and oophorectomy. I completed a PhD in April 2013, which investigated distress and adaptation among women at increased familial risk of breast cancer. Since mid-2013, I have been developing an online psychological intervention aimed at reducing depression and anxiety in men who have been treated for testicular cancer.

I completed Psychology Honours in 2014 and have worked in psycho-oncology at CeMPED since December 2014. I have been co-ordinating a large, multi-centre study evaluating a psychologist-delivered intervention for fear of cancer recurrence involving 20 sites in Australia. I have also been working on a number of systematic reviews and analyses for papers emerging from CeMPED research. I will be starting a Masters of Clinical Psychology in 2016.
