Adam Walczak

BPsych (Hons)

Research Co-ordinator

I joined CeMPED in 2009 to coordinate a NHMRC study evaluating a multifocal Doctor/Patient/Carer communication intervention aimed at improving quality-of-life and quality of death for patients with incurable cancer. I am also completing a PhD under the supervision of Prof. Phyllis Butow and A/Prof. Josephine Clayton. Prior to joining CeMPED, I worked at the University of New South Wales on an emotion-focused and family-based clinical therapy study for childhood and adolescent behavioural and emotional difficulties. I completed my BPsych (Hons) at Macquarie University in 2006 investigating the relationships between personality and health risk driving behaviours and self-report and driving simulator assessments of risk behaviour. My particular interests are the psychosocial impacts of severe, life-limiting or chronic illness on children and adolescents, and treatments and resources that can reduce family and patient burdens.

Dr Judy Wilson

BA(Hons), MPsych(Clin), PhD

Research Co-ordinator

I am currently working part-time as coordinator of the kConFab Psychosocial Study, a role which I commenced in 2004. This study is being conducted in collaboration with the Kathleen Cunningham Consortium for research into Familial breast cancer (kConFab), and examines the role of psychosocial factors (such as anxiety, depression, stress and social support) in the development of breast cancer among women from high-risk families. Prior to commencing work at Sydney University, I completed a Master of Clinical Psychology/PhD degree at Macquarie University. My PhD research examined cognitive factors in social phobia, as well as cognitive factors which differentiate social anxiety versus depression.
